Or find the very best in organic and local produce at the farmer's market at the foot of Noorderkerk church, and enjoy the vibrant colors, aromas and flavors as people have been doing at this very spot since the 17th century. Boutiques, creative workspaces, sports clubs and yoga studios: everything is within walking distance. Public transportation connectivity to De Diamant is excellent via Central Station and trams 3, 5, bus 18 and 21.

Diamond-cutting factory ‘Elise’ was founded in 1880. At that time, there was such an abundance of rough diamonds that diamond-cutting factories were established to process the diamonds. The director (originally an engraver) rented the mills to diamond cutters. The factory is thought to have been named for Elisabeth, the director's wife. By the late 19th century, the diamond sector was among Amsterdam's largest industries. The building itself was somewhat inspired by the Neo-Renaissance architectural style with industrial characteristics.

MVA neighbourhood information: Jordaan

The Jordaan is one of the most well-known neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. It is an amazing area to live, go out and have some fun. The Jordaan’s best features are created by their history, the residents and its urban character. Within the Jordaan you can find several small streets with beautifully restored buildings, there are plazas and public gardens, but also canals and streets where you can find marketplaces and small shops. These attractive features of the Jordaan can mostly be found on the North side of this neighbourhood, the southern part is in comparison to the North more described as residential area.
