MVA neighbourhood information: Indische Buurt West

The Indische Buurt is a neighbourhood is Amsterdam East. All the street names within this area are named after island and other geographical locations. The neighbourhood has a high social cohesion. A high percentage of the inhabitants are from different cultures which gives the neighborhood a multicultural feeling, some say that more than a hundred languages are spoken in this neighbourhood. The Sumatraplantsoenbuurt lies within the Indische Buurt(west). This area is the most densely populated part of Amsterdam East. The main part of this area is residential, only within the Molukkenstraat can be found several shops and other facilities. Although the biggest part of this area is residential this area is considered to be a safe place with recreation facilities.
