LOCATION

De Diamant is located in the lee of the historic city center on a quiet square. The Jordaan is just 150 meters away. Browse among the cafés and restaurants on Tweede Tuindwarsstraat. Or go shopping at the (organic) farmers' market at the foot of the Noorderkerk. Boutiques, creative workplaces, sports and yoga studios, they are all within walking distance. De Diamant is easily accessible via Central Station or with trams 3, 5, buses 18 and 21.

HISTORY

Diamond cutting company "Elise" dates from 1880. At that time there was such a large supply of rough diamonds that the diamonds were processed within diamond cutting companies. The director (originally engraver) rented the mills to diamond cutters. The grindery is probably named after Elisabeth, the director's wife. At the end of the 19th century, the diamond industry was one of the largest industries in Amsterdam. The building is slightly inspired by the Neo-Renaissance architectural style with industrial features.

MVA neighbourhood information: Jordaan

The Jordaan is one of the most well-known neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. It is an amazing area to live, go out and have some fun. The Jordaan’s best features are created by their history, the residents and its urban character. Within the Jordaan you can find several small streets with beautifully restored buildings, there are plazas and public gardens, but also canals and streets where you can find marketplaces and small shops. These attractive features of the Jordaan can mostly be found on the North side of this neighbourhood, the southern part is in comparison to the North more described as residential area.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the largest Dutch city, the capital of the Netherlands, and the nation's financial, business, cultural and commercial capital as well. Since its founding in the 12th century, Amsterdam has evolved from a small fishing village into one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age. Museums like the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk also give Amsterdam serious cultural credibility. Amsterdam's compact size, cycling lifestyle, diverse population (more than 170 nationalities), English-speaking natives, abundance of green space, reliable public transportation system and central location within Europe mean it's not only a great place to visit, but also a great place to live.

Apartments

Buying an apartment in Amsterdam is different from buying a house or a detached villa. In case of an apartment, you do not only have neighbours to your left and right, but often also above or underneath you. That means the ground on which the property is located belongs to multiple people. This can lead to complications when you’re trying to figure out the extra costs before buying the apartment.
