As an expat, you won’t immediately think of a village like Wassenaar to settle when you come from abroad, but after driving through this village with a real estate agent, most expats are sold! Joost Welp, MVA Certified Expat Broker at Welp Makelaardij, will tell you all about it.

History

The village of Wassenaar has a very old history, which is clearly visible in the architecture of the houses and the structure of the village centre. Wassenaar is a village that has focused on expats in recent years. We have various shops that are set up especially for or even by expats, so you will quickly feel at home! Every year, when the schools have just started, a Monday Morning Walk Through is organised for the expat women (and men). This allows all shops in the centre that have registered for this to introduce themselves to them. This gives the expats a good impression of the village and local shopkeepers have the opportunity to expand their clientele.

American School of The Hague

What many people don't know is that the American School of The Hague (ASH) is located in Wassenaar. The school is divided into an elementary school, middle school and high school, and recently they have also established the pre-school in our village. Wherever you live in the village, children can go to school by bike, so they are quickly introduced to the Dutch way of living. Of course there is also the option to be picked up by the school bus.

Culture

As far as culture is concerned, Wassenaar has a lot to offer, too; you will find Museum Voorlinden on the Landgoed Voorlinden, where modern and contemporary art can be admired, and on the border of Wassenaar and The Hague you will find the Louwman Museum, with its historic cars, carriages and motorcycles.

Surroundings

If you choose to settle in Wassenaar, you will notice that you will relax after a day of work. Due to our history, the houses are spacious and there is still a lot of greenery. The village is also located near the dunes (Meijendel), where you can walk endlessly with the family or with the dog. From Wassenaar it’s only a few (car) minutes to Leiden, Noordwijk, The Hague or Scheveningen. The highway to Amsterdam, Delft and Rotterdam is also easily accessible. If you prefer to use public transport, this is certainly possible. Various bus lines take you to stations like Leiden, Voorschoten or The Hague in a few minutes.
