Breukelen is a part of the municipality of Stichtse Vecht, and is known for its beautiful green surroundings, large houses and summer residences. Many of these villas and their gorgeous gardens were built in the 17th century by rich merchants. Examples include the summer residences Gunterstein, Vechtvliet and Boom en Bosch, which now serves as Breukelen’s town hall.
