The Indische Buurt is a neighbourhood is Amsterdam East. All the street names within this area are named after island and other geographical locations. The neighbourhood has a high social cohesion. A high percentage of the inhabitants are from different cultures which gives the neighborhood a multicultural feeling, some say that more than a hundred languages are spoken in this neighbourhood. The Sumatraplantsoenbuurt lies within the Indische Buurt(west). This area is the most densely populated part of Amsterdam East.
