Warmond is a beautiful and authentic village with lots to offer. The village is situated along the Kager Lakes, which is an ideal area for water sports, walking and cycling. Warmond is located on an old beach ridge, which runs parallel to the Leede, a body of water that connects the Kager Lakes to the Oude Rijn via canals.

The name Warmond first appears in a 9th-century list of goods from the Church of Utrecht. This document states that the Sint-Maarten church in Utrecht possessed three mansi (farms) in Warmelda. It should be said, however, that the actual human habitation of the beach ridge of Warmond goes back a lot further than this written document suggests. Because of its height, the beach ridge of Warmond was particularly suitable to protect the area from flooding.

Apart from its beautiful location and the water of the Kaag, Watermond has plenty more to offer. Art is one of the attractions of the village. Warmond was once home to the painter Jan Steen, and currently the Dutch novelist Maarten ‘t Hart lives here, as well as artists Eppo van Bolhuis and Nicoline Heemskerk. Apart from all these things, the village is easily accessible. Within 20 minutes you can find yourself either at Schiphol, in Leiden, cycling through the Bollenstreek (Flower Bulb Area), or walking on the beach.
