Koudekerk a/d Rijn is a village belonging to the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, in the province of South Holland. As the name suggests, Koudekerk is situated along the Rhine river. Koudekerk aan den Rijn is located between Leiderdorp and Oudshoorn. In Koudekerk aan den Rijn you can find the castle territory of Groot-Poelgeest. The castle is surrounded by beautiful wide canals. Because of this, it often serves as a location for events. Castle Groot-Poelgeest was probably built around 1250, when the Poelgeest gentlemen started living there. The village of Koudekerk has a rich history, therefore, which goes all the way back to the 13th century.
