MVA neighbourhood information: Indische Buurt Oost

The Indische Buurt is a neighbourhood is Amsterdam East. All the street names within this area are named after island and other geographical locations. The neighbourhood has a high social cohesion. A high percentage of the inhabitants are from different cultures which gives the neighborhood a multicultural feeling, some say that more than a hundred languages are spoken in this neighbourhood. The Makassarpleinbuurt lies inside the Indische Buurt(east). The neighbourhood is mainly residential with on the edge of the neighbourhood several shops and businesses. Throughout the neighbourhood several social facilities can be found including the nursing-home ’Flevohuis’. This area got extra care in terms of restoration. Several houses have been renewed and streets are completely reorganized.
