‘Nieuwbouw’ (new construction/development) is a common Dutch term in both the rental and owner-occupier sectors. It refers to properties that have recently been completed. New houses are built by project developers, municipalities, housing corporations and on behalf of private individuals or municipalities. The inhabitants of new home developments are generally the first inhabitants of the property. If the house has been inhabited before, the term ‘bestaande bouw’ (existing construction) is used.
