Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, usually called Ouderkerk for short, is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is largely a part of the municipality of Ouder-Amstel, and lies about 9 km to the south of Amsterdam. Ouderkerk aan de Amstel offers a scenic refuge from the hustle and bustle of its famous neighbour to the north. The village is a popular destination for bike rides from Amsterdam – just follow the Amstel river south for 40 minutes or so until you reach it. Ouderkerk is located close to the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Forest) and the village of Uithoorn, which lies further along the river.
