Uithoorn

Uithoorn is a small town located south of Amsterdam. It’s home to cafés and shops and some lovely spots to walk and see an abundance of nature and history. The town is perhaps best known for its unusual city flag and coat of arms, both of which feature a figure emerging from a golden horn. The town’s name literally means ‘from the horn’ in Dutch. Going from Uithoorn to Amsterdam by car takes 30 minutes. Uithoorn has a 60-hectare nature reserve that surrounds a lake called the Zijdelmeer. It’s a fantastic spot for walks and its beautiful landscapes – including reed fields, grasslands, hay islands and a swampy forest - are home to a host of diverse wildlife.
