Vianen

Vianen was built as a fortified town, which is still visible today in its street pattern, city walls and the Lek gate. Everywhere you look, you can find references to Vianen’s rich history. In the residential neighbourhood of De Hagen, there’s a street that’s named after Willem van Duivenoorde, the founder of Vianen. He was the one who ensured the fortress obtained city rights in 1336.

Vianen has plenty of good walking opportunities. You can wander through the polder, along the Lek river and its meadows, over the Diefdyke, through the forests, the Bolgerijen polder, the Viaanse forest, and of course through Vianen’s historical town centre.
