Voorschoten is a green village between The Hague, Leiden and Wassenaar. Here you can find polders with meadows, dunes, forests, natural and manmade parks, intersected by canals and peat bogs. All of this is within walking or cycling distance. Voorschoten originated on an old beach ridge and had an elongated shape. This form was the result of ribbon development in the Middle Ages, and is still visible in the Voorstraat, which functioned as a marketplace.
