Description

Double house on the waterfront.
Special, stylishly restored monument with a unique layout. With beautiful light and stunning views over the harbour, the Spaarne and village square. In the picturesque fishing village Spaarndam, with in the vicinity a supermarket, several restaurants, primary schools and public transport.

In 1636, the building was used as a sail-maker's shop and in 1872 it was converted into a residence. Throughout the years, several adjustments have been made for the comfort of living, whereby various original elements have been preserved. The current owners have restored the house between 2000 and 2002. Over the years, the charming building has been well maintained and very recently, the paintwork has also been serviced. The national monument consists of two separate dwellings that can be used separately and a large living/working area in the former sail-making shop, which can be used for many purposes. The house receives natural daylight through the many windows, which, especially in winter, has a playful effect due to the reflection of the low sun in the water.

It really is the place for sun and water lovers. From three sides of the building there is a view of the water and the oldest, still hand-operated lock in the Netherlands. The choice was made to live on the first floor because of the view over the Spaarne, the Kolk and the village square with the cultural-historical bandstand.

In 1200, Spaarndam was founded as a dam between the Zuiderzee and the Spaarne. The most important activities at that time were fishing and shipbuilding. The transhipment of the sea-going vessels to the inland navigation took place in the Kolksluis. Present-day Spaarndam is a nice place to live near Amsterdam, Haarlem and the Kennemer dunes with both the peace and quiet of the countryside and the dynamics of a lively village. Besides a marina, a cosy village pub and several restaurants, Spaarndam has two primary schools and a medical centre. Last year, the new large AH supermarket was opened. There is a regular bus connection with Haarlem city centre and in 10 minutes you can reach the railway station Haarlem Spaarnwoude, where a train to Amsterdam CS leaves every 15 minutes. In Haarlem, there are several secondary schools and an international school.

Spaarndam borders on the recreational area Spaarnwoude with all possibilities for relaxation and entertainment (golf, indoor ski centre, riding school, etc.). Bloemendaal aan zee and the Kennemer dunes are easy to reach by bicycle.
