Westland is bordered in the north by The Hague, in a small part of the northeast by Rijswijk, in the east by Midden-Delfland, in the south by the borough of Hoek van Holland and in the southeast by Maassluis. On the west side, the municipality has a natural border, the North Sea. The cities The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam, including the port of Rotterdam, are all located closely to the municipality. Westland is world-famous for its greenhouses, its innovative greenhouse horticulture and the fresh vegetables, flowers and plants that are cultivated here. It’s these greenhouses that have given Westland its nickname ‘the Glass City’.
